What to expect on your visit

Front Desk

When you come into our office you will be greeted by our caring friendly staff.  Many patients chose to use their insurance.  If you intend to use your insurance benefits please bring your insurance card with you when you come for your first appointment.  Whether you choose to use insurance or not, please bring a photo id so that we may make a copy of it for your records.

Reception Room

If there is any additional information we need from you we will ask you to provide it at this time.  We know no one likes filling out paperwork so we try to keep paperwork to a minimum but in order for us to provide the best care possible we need to know a little bit about you.

We also know time is very precious so we work hard to stay on time.  Nearly all of our patients are seen within five minutes of their scheduled appointment time.

Consultation Room

After you have completed the initial paperwork you will be escorted to our consultation room.  Dr. Mills will discuss your case with you first to determine if he believes your case is one he will accept and to find out any additional information.  This is also a chance for you to ask any questions you have about your health and chiropractic.  Because so many people have questions about chiropractic.

Exam Room

After your consultation with the doctor and you both agree to move forward with your case you will be escorted to our exam room.  At Mills Chiropractic we look at the total you.  We know that the human body is more than a sum of its individual parts that is why we believe it is important to look at all aspects of your health to determine what areas need to be addressed.  To determine the cause of your problems the doctor will perform a detailed neurological, orthopedic, chiropractic and acupuncture based exam.  These exams or test will assist the doctor in determining the exact cause of your condition and assist in helping him determine the best course of treatment for your condition.

After the doctor has finished with the neurological, orthopedic, chiropractic, and acupuncture exams he will perform a surface EMG scan of your spine.  This specialized tool is similar to an ECG or EKG of your heart except it is a little more sensitive.  This device was developed by a NASA scientist recently and allows the doctor to scan your spine for nerve and muscle imbalances in a quick and pain free manner.

Once all of these test have been performed the doctor will determine if x-rays will be required for your case.  If x-rays are required we are able to take them in office without requiring you to drive anywhere else.

After your examination is completed which usually takes about one hour from the time you enter the office the doctor will make a determination as to the best approach for your case.  Many times some type of pain relief treatment will be given at this time, however, most patients are not adjusted on this first visit because the doctor believes it is very important to study your exam results and x-rays before initiating care.

Rehabilitation Facility

Many times patients neglect their injuries or problems for prolong periods of time and once they seek care they have weak muscles or ligaments and may have even developed scar tissue or degeneration.  The problem with scar tissue or damaged tissue is that it is not as strong as normal tissue which predisposes people to re-exacerbations.  That is why we develop a specialized rehabilitation program for each of our patients that require this type of care.  If we are able to strengthen the weakened area many of our patients can experience a life free of chronic pain and re-injury.

Treatment Room

The treatment room is where the process of healing the body begins.  In our office we utilize a variety of tools and the latest techniques to assist the body on its journey toward wellness.  Most of our patients receive chiropractic adjustments to the spine using the Activator.  The Activator adjusting instrument is some of the latest technology and allows us to be very specific and gentle with our adjustments.  Some of the other tools we use in our office include; custom made orthotic supports, nutrition, myofascial therapy, athletic bracing, acupuncture, allergy elimination, electrical stimulation, traction and muscle work.  At your report of findings the doctor will discuss your treatment options and which treatment approaches will work the best for you.
